Fulham – Hughes Geordie Angst!

Last year, as you are all perfectly aware, our thoughts, at this stage of the season, were pre-occupied with staying up.

This year we`ve hit fifty points and we are perfectly safe. But we`re still, in a strange way, involved in the relegation picture.

Next Saturday we travel to the North-East to take on a Newcastle side firmly entrenched in a relegation battle that`s every bit as daunting as the one we faced last season.

Amongst our current playing squad is a certain Aaron Hughes, a player who once wore the black and white stripes of Newcastle, and a player who is well aware of the emotions involved.

Speaking to the media, after the fine 3-1 win over Aston Villa, Aaron spoke about the situation remarking,

“My wife Samantha and all her family are from up there, so it`s disappointing they are where they are.”

“She was a Newcastle fan but has always supported whoever I`m playing for.”

“It would be a shame if they went down, but I can`t play the game thinking that – I`m playing for Fulham and giving everything for my team.”

Especially when another three points could edge us closer to that magical 7th spot in the Premier League!
