Fulham – Hughes First Signing?

The season is almost upon us and the excitement levels are rising.

On the transfer front we`re behind our competitors purely because of the Hodgson / Jol / Hughes saga, but the gossip columns are fairly certain that Mark Hughes is on the verge of making his first signing.

The inference being that Hughes will be signing the Algerian defender Rafik Halliche, a centre back.

Halliche is 23 years of age and registered with the Portuguese side Benfica, however, he has been on loan at another Portuguese side, Nacional and he may have been noticed performing admirably for Algeria in the fixture against England in South Africa 2010.

There`s a mention of a price somewhere in the region of £1.8 million for the player in the article that announces the possible transfer and there is also a quote from the player, a quote which confirms he is leaving Benfica but without giving a destination away, when he`s attributed as having remarked,

“I`m a Benfica player but I will be leaving.”

Although perhaps the biggest giveaway that he could be Fulham bound is with the suggestion that he left the Algerian training camp yesterday (Tuesday) to fly to London for a medical.

We`ll keep abreast of the situation!
