I very much doubt whether there`ll be such a talked about topic this month than the furore Danny Murphy has caused with his recent outburst!
But, as we`d normally suspect, his gaffer, Mark Hughes, has come out on his side backing his player to a degree although remaining a little more cautious about some aspects of his comments.
This is what Mark Hughes had to say about those remarks when pressed at the pre-match press conference,
“Everyone has a right to their opinion and if he`s witnessed a sea of change or sensed a change in intent or attitudes then he`s best placed to say that. We can view from afar and have an opinion but Danny`s actually on the field of play and he felt he needed to say something.”
“He is going up against guys who, on occasions in Danny`s view in certain games against certain opposition, he feels may have over-stepped the mark.”
“You have to accept that because even as a manager, you don`t know the intent of anybody. Certainly as a player I knew if somebody was stepping over the line or just making a fair and competitive tackle.”
“That was the point Danny was making. He was being honest. Danny has forthright views and he is prepared to have his say.”
On a personal level, I`m beginning to wonder just how long this one will run and run before it dies a natural death!
