After he missed that sitter in the first half of the game against West Brom, Bobby Zamora could have sought sanctuary out of harms way, but he didn`t!

Instead he battle don and was rewarded with a goal that gave us that valuable opener against the Midlands side.

His strike wasn`t nothing fantastic, in fact I could probably have stabbed it home, but that`s not the point, the point being that it`ll give that confidence factor he`s been missing in front of goal.

In fact, on another day he could well have had a second as Fulham pressed forward looking for a few more goals.

In his customary well worth hearing post match interview, Roy Hodgson praised Zamora and put great emphasis on his work rate rather than his current scoring prowess remarking,

‘Bobby’s bound to be relieved.”

‘I would prefer to judge front players on what they do for the team and not make it as simple as ‘if you score eight goals you’re a good one and if you score two you’re a bad one’.

‘If Zamora scored eight or nine this season and we were lying in the bottom three I would get no satisfaction at all.

‘I’d much rather be looking at the table and having us in eighth place with him scoring two goals.

‘He’s kept at things well, formed a partnership with Johnson and that’s been very important for us. But I take the point that as a front player you want to score goals and you’ll always have it thrown at you if that’s not happening.’

All fair points from Gentleman Roy but he too picked up on the confidence factor commenting,

‘It was quite interesting that after he scored he had two more great strikes, one of which led to the second goal. It’s pretty obvious a weight has been lifted from his mind. “

‘As for me, I suppose I enjoy a sense of relief too because I always believed in Zamora and Johnson and I brought them both to the club.’

Next stop Swansea, another pair of goals from Johnson and Zamora will do me as we get the scent of Wembley in our nostrils.

  • i’m really interested to see bobby have a run at the swansea defenders… they didn’t get a proper look at him last match…

  • Roy makes a great point. It’s not about one player scoring goals. It’s about the team winning games. I wonder if we’ll see Kamara and Nevland on Tuesday. I’d rather Zamora and AJ be saved for league play. With ManU looming if we win, I can’t see Roy putting out the full compliment of starters.

  • To be honest, after Roy talking about fatigue levels, etc id rather BZam and AJ be rested. Imo the league is more important. As much as id love to go to wembley donning my white shirt, the Man Utd tie will take something special (provided we beat the Swans!) which is bound to have repercussions on fitness levels, etc in the league. Even if its only difference of a place or two, thats still money for the club in future transfers and foreign players are bound to take us much more seriously increasing the prospective talent we could bring in next summer…
