It was always going to be one of those games wasn`t it?

Both sides entered it looking to end runs whereby neither side could claim to have won for weeks, in the Premier League.

It was always going to be a scrappy affair and that`s exactly how it turned out.

In his post match interview, Roy Hodgson praised Portsmouth for their approach and also offered comments on reaching a milestone as well as the problems we could face with regards to operating with a limited striker force now that Andrew Johnson has joined the list of those with long term injuries.

Take it away Roy,

“I am delighted with the result, especially as I may now be looking at the rest of the season with what is a limited and inexperienced group of front players.”

“At half time we were somewhat fortunate still to be at 0-0.”

“We struggled to get ourselves going and all credit to Portsmouth for their first half performance.”

“Their passing and skill were very good, that knocked us back a bit. We had to grind out a result.”

“We had not really got into the game but the team showed a lot of character and were better in the second half.”

“It was important to win the game and to get the three points. That lifts us into the 30-point area, which is an important psychological barrier.”

“We have played better in defeats but you get no credit for that.”

“So we might as well have played not so well to get the result.”

Bolton, at the Reebok Stadium, awaits Fulham next, it promises to be an intriguing clash!
