Fulham could, and should, have won today against Spurs.

On another occasion we`d all be celebrating another famous win, just like the ones over Liverpool and Manchester United.

We`d be showing that despite our lack of financial resources, compared to the so-called big-boys, we`re a club that is heading in the right direction.

Last season Fulham surpassed all expectations in finishing seventh, ahead of Spurs, and crashing through a ceiling I`d placed on our maximum progress.

In his post match interview, Roy Hodgson touched on much the same matter with one of his talking points, commenting,

‘It’s nice to know we can match our more famous and expensive opponents.”

‘I was lying in bed this morning going through our financial situations.”

‘I did a calculation in my head of how much this Spurs team cost to assemble, not lamenting but certainly comparing it to what it cost to put our side together. It’s a great credit to our club.’

I`d imagine it cost a fraction of what the Spurs side cost but that didn`t stop our players from imposing themselves and almost gaining those vital three points, a point Roy also touched on, explaining,

‘In terms of clear-cut goal chances I’d say we deserved to win that.”

‘I thought our first-half performance was really good and we were clearly better. Maybe with any luck we would have entered half-time in front.”

‘Their goalkeeper made two or three very good saves and we scuffed one or two chances.”

‘The game evened out a lot more in the opening 30 minutes of the second half but we were back in the last 15 minutes.”

‘Once again Gomes made a great save, as did Mark Schwarzer for us. You’d have to say of the two goalkeepers that Gomes was a lot busier than Schwarzer.”

‘Perhaps we were unlucky not to win but it was a good game between two good teams.’

It was Roy and that was due to the commitment and effort of both teams, both of whom should be congratulated!
