The manner of yesterdays defeat will have hurt Fulham.

To go to Goodison Park and create a couple of golden chances only to succumb to a late goal, from a former player, is the thing nightmares are made off.

The defeat also saw the London side slip down the table and now they hover a mere two points above the relegation zone, a zone that includes Tottenham, Newcastle and Bolton.

Strangely enough, the next two fixtures the club faces are against two of those sides in the shape of Tottenham and Newcastle, six-pointers really are starting early in the Premier League this season.

After the match Roy Hodgson, in his customary post match interview, spoke about the missed chances and the bitter disappointment of losing in such a cruel way, remarking,

‘Jimmy Bullard’s free-kick created the chance for Bobby Zamora, and he hit the post. While Gera rattled the crossbar with a header. “

‘We missed them both, but we were still defending very well and contained Everton’s growing threats when they kept putting on strikers.”

‘Unfortunately they found a way to get in a cross and Louis produced an excellent header, and there was not much time for us after that. “

‘It is a bitterly disappointing way to lose after the team had worked so hard, we deserved one point, at least.”

‘We worked hard all game to stop the crosses getting into the box and we succeeded in that until just that one at the end, it could have been any time but it is not anything to do with lack of effort.”

‘The work-rate and commitment was commendable. We were playing a top team who are difficult on their own ground.’

Fulham supporters will be hoping their side can get back to winning ways next weekend otherwise a drop into the relegation places beckons.
