Does the participation in the Europa league bear heavily on Roy Hodgson`s mind?

Those who a bit longer in the tooth than others will recall that European participation cost Roy dearly whilst he was at Ewood Park.

Perhaps, with the following quotes, he`s just issuing a subtle reminder that we shouldn`t expect as grand a finish as last season.

See what you think?

“With clubs like Fulham, if you do very well one year you make a rod for your own back.”

“We finished in a qualifying place last season which was excellent. But the chances are we won`t finish as high up this season.”

“And people will regard that as failure.”

“Our Europa League clash with Roma showed how far we have come.”

“But clubs like Fulham often do worse when they have qualified for Europe. I remember this happening when I was at Blackburn.”

“Everyone recognises that it`s going to be very hard for us to get even close to where we were last season.”

Would you trade off the Europa League for a repeat of seventh in the Premier League this season?

  • I think it’s obvious that we’re not willing to invest the money to compete in Europe, so to answer the question, “yes”, I’d be perfectly fine getting bounced our of Europa League if it meant another top 7 finish in the Prem.

  • i think we need to prove that we can consistently finish in the top seven before we really reinforce the squad for a serious europa league title run… but i’d have to agree, if it meant we’d finish seventh again, i wouldn’t mind being bounced out of europe… course we’re looking to get bounced out no matter what, so i’m more so just being optimistic in out PL final table position…
