As the days slowly tick down towards the start of the new season, things slowly begin to fall into place.

No doubt, Roy will pull one or two more signings off, signings that we hope will provide us with a stable platform to move forward from.

One of Roys signings last January, Brede Hangeland, is looking forward to the new season starting and has spoken to Setanta Sports, offering these few comments,

“I think the lads are just looking forward to the start of a new campaign, trying to prepare and to make sure that we do better and ensure that we`re not in the same position as last season.”

“We know we have to perform better than we did last season, ensure the quality is there because the determination to succeed has always been there. “

“I think if we play like we did towards the end of last season and maybe even a bit better than that and more importantly on a more consistent level then we should be able to finish in a better position this season.”

‘I don`t know too much about our new signings to be honest. The player I probably know most about is Mark Schwarzer; he`s a proven Premier League player and has shown his quality time and again over the years. Zoltan [Gera] has looked really sharp in training. I am sure they`ll all play their part for us next term.”

All good stuff, but its another quote we`ve uncovered that should serve us with a warning which may prevent you from sleeping well.

Brede remarked,

“We have some tough opponents but it is vital we start the season well.”

The Norwegian is acutely aware that we start the season with games against Hull City, Manchester United and Arsenal.

If we get off to a poor start we could find ourselves in the bottom three, if that were the case perhaps we`d better not reflect on last season.

On that occasion, the first time we slipped into the bottom three, we never climbed out of it until that fateful day at Fratton Park.

Let`s hope lightning doesn`t strike twice otherwise that previously mentioned stable platform might look a little wobbly!
