A possible negative side of reaching a major European final is the fact that you tend to put your best players in Europe`s shop window.
Now at Craven Cottage we`re realistic enough to know that any large bids coming in for any of our players would normally be considered by the board.
One such player that will inevitably attract interest is Brede Hangeland.
With Arsene Wenger already acutely aware of his qualities you can only wonder as to whom else is secretly harbouring a desire to snatch him from our clasp.
Brede, ahead of our date in the Nordbank Arena, has spoken briefly about being the underdog for the occasion, explaining,
“All through this cup competition we`ve been the underdogs.”
“I don`t mind, it suits us well. We know we can perform well.”
Plus, we have the added incentive of being cheered on by all those that love to see the underdog come up trumps.
But, a European Final doesn`t come without pressure. Getting there is not the be-all and end-all of it, winning is!
The next twenty-four hours will see the media work themselves into a frenzy as they seek to cover every angle and the pressure can get to players, although Brede explains it is a different kind of pressure and not as intense as he felt when the club was one short game away from plunging through the relegation trapdoor,
“The consequences of losing were so great.”
They were, without Premier League football this club of ours wouldn`t be where they are today and isn`t (Sir) Roy always reminding us that it`s essential to secure our Premier League status before dreaming of anything else?
