With Premier League football still on hold until the weekend as we await the vital second legs of the World Cup play-offs to be concluded, we thought we`d give our support to the Republic of Ireland and in particular, Damien Duff.

Our recent signing from Newcastle United will be in Paris as Ireland look to overturn a 1-0 first leg deficit after a Nicolas Anelka deflected shot gave France a narrow advantage.

In fact the scene is set for Duff to become a hero (again) if he can be the one to score the goals to take Ireland to South Africa, next summer. But, if he is to do so he`ll need to score for his country for the first time since March 2006, a lapse of three and a half years since he last scored.

Speaking about the fixture, Damien has commented,

“It`s massive. We have obviously given ourselves an uphill task. But if we go over there and nick one, it`s game on again. We`re all confident we can go and do it. You have to be.”

“We have taken an awful lot of positives out of Saturday. Other people may not have, but we think we can go there and do it.”

It should be an interesting evening, let`s hope Irish eyes are smiling come late Wednesday evening.
