With the transfer window open, there`s always going to be the possibility of rumours evolving relating to our playing staff.

This week, rumours broke that Zoltan Gera was one player who might be leaving Craven Cottage.

Having lost his starting place recently, the thirty-one year old hinted that, with Panathinikos lurking, he might be looking to move on.

Gera`s contract expires this summer although we are informed that he has n option included in it that triggers an extension if he plays a certain number of games this season.

Speaking about the possibilities open to him on the situation, Mark Hughes has commented,

‘There will be interest in Zolly because he’s a good player, but I’ve had conversations with him and made it quite clear I want good players to remain at the club.”

‘He’s in that bracket. I can understand his frustration this season. He’s been in and out of the team, but he’s still played over half of the league games, give or take.”

‘He’s a big part of what we’ve been doing this year. Obviously when he’s out of the team he will be a little bit frustrated.”

‘His contract situation means he’s possibly looking at his options, which he’s at liberty to do.”

‘But from my point of view, I think Zolly’s a very good player and we would like him to play the number of games that would trigger the option on his contract.’

This is one of those, we think, could go either way.
