Bolton`s loss to Premier League leaders Manchester United, last night, is a result that went our way.

It now means that all the teams in the relegation area of the Premier League have eight games left, each team now knows exactly what they need to do to claw away from the foot of the table. With Derby County already doomed, even if miracles do happen around Easter, there could be as many as six teams fearing for their future at this moment in time.

On Saturday, we travel to St James Park to take on a Newcastle side who, despite the re-arrival of the messiah in King Kev, have been unable to turn the positive spin into points.

St James Park is also the very place we last managed to win an away Premier League game, back in September 2006. if we are to scrape clear of the bottom three and give ourselves the life-line we so desperately needed, as we`ve been saying all week, that away record has to be ended and ended quickly.

It`s a point not lost on Roy Hodgson who is quoted in the Daily Mirror this morning as saying,

“We have to do something quickly.”

“I don`t know why we haven`t won away. I think you go into hostile environments with big crowds and that has an effect on decisions which might go your way at home.”

“And to get points away from home you have to be able to be a gritty team and be able to dig in.”

Well now we`re defending more resolutely and have a bit of steel in midfield, let`s make sure that this Saturday we dig in and end this farcical situation that has haunted us all season!
