Could (Sir) Roy`s plan to play a virtually full strength starting eleven have back-fired on him last night?
When Damien Duff didn`t emerge for the second half, rumour spread around the ground that he`d torn a calf muscle and would be out off the Europa League Final.
If so, it would be a major blow to our hopes as Damien, since joining from Newcastle United, has been a revelation.
Thankfully, in his post match press conference, Roy played down some of those fears when he remarked,
“Damien took a kick a while ago and it might be cramping up one of the muscles. That was a blow but when you play Stoke you expect a physical game.”
“There`s a week to go and they don`t think it`s a muscle tear.”
Like they say, a week is a long time, fingers crossed that Damien will make it for next Wednesday!
