For those of us who doubted whether Damien Duff would be a good signing (and I was one of them) it`s time to eat a slice of humble pie.

Damien has been a breath of fresh air since his arrival and if it were not for his sparkling skills we`d not have come back from a goal behind to level the game against Bolton.

After the game Roy Hodgson paid tribute to the player who suffered probably the ultimate disappointment in Paris not long ago when he was cheated out of one final World Cup tournament.

Here`s what Gentleman Roy had to say,

“All I can say is he`s a better player than the one I worked with at Blackburn 12 years ago.”

“He was an outstanding talent the. But he`s even better now.”

Before enlightening us further with how, behind the scenes Damien plays a big role in pepping the side up pre-match, commenting,

“Damien is an influence because he`s a popular figure.”

Before proving that Damien`s musical taste is not one that Roy appreciates, when he remarks,

“Sadly when he gets his Irish music on in the dressing room it clears it pretty damn quick.”

Would I be too far off the mark if I were to suggest that Damien could well be on the way to being a leading contender for our player f the season already?
