If anyone needed a reality check as to just how important the next two games are (home clashes with Newcastle and Spurs)and the need to get something in the way of points, then simply look at what follows these two games.

We`re faced with daunting away trips to Liverpool and Aston Villa and with our away record, whereby we`ve not taken a single point on our travels, a failure to take anything from the Newcaslte and Spurs games would leave us with a bleak outlook.

It`s something that Brede Hangeland has grasped when he remarks,

‘I agree that we need something from these next two home games because we have Liverpool and Villa away after that, which will be difficult games.’

‘We’d like to see ourselves a bit further up the table and our home form has been OK so hopefully we will collect a few points in the next two.”

No hopefully about it, I`d say it`s an absolute necessity!

  • if we could get one point out of pool and villa we’ll be happy. Newcastle is an important game, no matter who buys the club and who winds up the manager they are going to be scrapping around our level this season. Like with the Wigan game, its crucial to pick up points at home against teams who are going to finish near you in the table. COYW

  • if we can win our home games we will be fine, the odd point away will see us stay up the league is so close one win you jump up about 6 places
