As we`re set to embark on what could be a history making ninety minutes, against Atletico Madrid, it`s great to see that (Sir) Roy, the LMA Manager of the Year, has spoken about one of the managerial greats of English football and following in his footsteps.

As a servant of Fulham Football Club the man Roy hopes to emulate will always have a fond place in our hearts and his brave battle, with cancer, touched many a heart.

Sir Bobby Robson, believe it or not, is the only English manager to win a major European trophy in the last thirteen years when he won the European Cup with Barcelona and Roy has spoken eloquently about Bobby, remarking,

“To follow a manager like Bobby Robson would be fantastic because, as you know, we were friends for many years.”

“He was a great man, a great manager and it would be nice to think I could follow him.”

Before moving on to discuss the emotions we can expect tonight,

“You work hard to get to a final. You know one of you is going to go smiling and one`s going to leave the field with tears in their eyes.”

Hopefully, the only tears in Roy`s eyes will be tears of joy!
