There has been ongoing speculation linking Fulham FC with many a forward. In fact, it seems that every striker that has become available on the transfer market has been linked with our humble club!

But, what is with the panic?

The simple reasoning that anyone would give is the current injury crisis we are undergoing at Craven Cottage. Obviously, we are lacking players.

However, on closer inspection, we aren’t particularly short up-front. In fact, I would say we are better off in that department than we were at any stage last season.

Yes, Dempsey is out; But, in reality, he is a midfielder who has the virtue of versatality, and we only play him as a forward when it is absolutely necessary.

Zamora was injured; With the operative word in that sentence being ‘was’. On top of that, there is no doubt he is at the top of his form, even though the injury may still haunt him.

Andy Johnson has recently returned and the backup provided by Nevland and Elm always has been and always will be relatively reliable.

To add to the cause we still have the likes of Gera and Duff who have it in them to push forward and support the attack on any given occasion.

Last, but by no means least, there is even the youngsters that are hitting the mark for our reserve team. Danny Hoesen and Marcello Trotta are both attackers that have proven their worth in the Reserve Premier League Southern Division. After all, look what a break in the first team did for Chris Smalling!

Saying that though, we have lost a digit in the shape of Seol Ki-Hyeon. I doubt, however, that he will be sorely missed.

It may seem that I am opposed to bringing a new striker, but, I am in fact the opposite. One other good quality striker could make the difference between an average year and a good year.

As always though, we should look from both sides of the argument. And, let’s not forget; We would save money!
