In the build up to the clash between England and the USA, on Saturday night, Clint Dempsey had implied that the USA would raise their game.
Now I`m not 100% certain that was the case or whether England stuttered along on the back of some woeful decisions by Capello or not.
Nevertheless, the history books will show that it was a Clint Dempsey goal that gave the USA side a draw against the group favourtes.
The manner in which the goal went in will live in the minds of English fans for many a year to come, Dempsey, naturally, though was more than pleased with the end result, commenting after the match to the worlds media,
“When I hit the shot I knew it was going on target and at the last second it moved a little bit. I saw him reaching but I saw it go over the line. I was hoping the referee saw it too. Thankfully he did.”
“It`s one of those goals everyone else seems to get. You watch them and think ‘Why can I never get a goal like that?”
“I`m happy to score my second goal in a World Cup. Hopefully I can keep doing fine like that. We are happy with the draw.”
I bet he is, a win over Slovenia will put the USA in a great position to qualify.
