It`s great how things can turn around in such a short space of time.

Back in August when Zoltan Gera had been signed, it looked as if Clint Dempsey might be the odd man out. In fact, sat on the substitutes` bench it looked as if that was the case.

But the American is made of sterner stuff and a string of stirring performances has cemented his claims to be a permanent member of the starting eleven.

Dempsey attributes this to being more of a complete footballer and has spoken passionately about his game, the league he plays in and the changes he has had to make, remarking,

‘I’ve morphed into more of a complete footballer and someone who can get forward and back and is not a liability defensively.”

“That was something that some thought was a weakness in my game but this year I’ve shown it’s one of my strengths. I feel I’m more of a complete player, my passing and the tempo of my play has got better by taking less touches and being smarter.”

‘It’s a great culture and awesome to be in a country where everybody is so passionate about a sport that you`re so passionate about. To be here and be around that atmosphere, playing in The Premier League, is a dream come true and I’m really enjoying it. I’m just trying to be the best player I can be.”

‘I just get my head down, work as hard as I can and keep my ears open to what I’m being asked to do as well as staying true to myself. It’s been tough but it’s made me a better, more complete player.”

Is Clinton Dempsey one of the un-sung heroes of our squad?

  • round of applauds for him i think….he has worked his socks off, AND given the products. he has been one of our better players this season.

  • As an American, I’m terribly proud of Dempsey. He’s definitely become a better player. He’s not your classic winger, but I think he’s done well in that role. In fact, I think he’s much more effective on the wing than he was as a withdrawn forward. Davies, Dempsey and Murphy have all done well. As for player of the season, it’s a two man race – Hangeland and Schwarzer. What a difference they’ve made.

  • he came to the club as a good prospect and he has certanly lived up to that,he has a great attitude and always gives everything he’s got,he is a joy to watch!

  • Definately a contender, deuce always gives his all and i can see that his game has improved dramatically over the past season. Keep up the good work

  • Demps is one of my favorite players, he has vastly imporved since joining us and lets hope it continues

  • Unsung??? Don’t be silly, people sing about him every bloody five minutes, usually after he doesn’t score with his left or his right. THE UNSUNG HERO is Simon Davies. We don’t sing about him enough. Back to Dempsey, we play better as a team when Dempsey chases the ball and looks up for it. That is a new talent for him and I applaud this needed raise in commitment from him.
