We didn`t think he`d listen; he`s always been his own man!

Therefore it has come as no surprise to hear that Chris Coleman has decided to take the Coventry City managers job.

Despite ignoring our pleas, too not be so hasty, we`d like to wish Chris all the best in his new role, even if, as to be expected, he`s already talking up Coventry City as having the potential to be one of the biggest clubs.

Lines such as,

“I never had 28,000 fans at Fulham when we were doing well and playing Manchester United or Chelsea.”

“The maximum we ever had at Fulham was the capacity of 25,000 but this is a big club.”

Only serve to amuse us. Even when Coventry were playing in top flight football, their attendances never exactly set the football alight.

Whilst Chris may well have the managerial acumen to turns things around on the pitch you get the general feeling of apathy normally associated with the area will prevent the Sky Blues ever truly hitting the heights.

As for the swipe at Al Fayed,

“I had a very colourful chairman at Fulham so it will be nice to converse with someone who understands football and the problems of being a manager.”

we can`t help feeling it`s slightly tinged with the taste of sour grapes!

Anyway, good luck Cookie – you just might need it!
