Fulham’s U18 side completed the double over Chelsea on Friday afternoon, riding out 2-1 winners at Motspur Park. Gary Brazil’s side were missing several key players but Lewis Smith’s late strike earned them all three points and Brazil was clearly delighted with his players.

‘We started very well and had a couple of chances in the first twenty minutes that we should probably have taken. The last quater of an hour of the first half they got hold of the ball and passed it a lot better without creating any clear cut opportunities.

‘In the second half it was more Chelsea’s game in terms of possession but we held firm without them creating any out-and-out chances. It looked like it was going to peter out into a nil-nil but with twenty minutes remaining they went infront.

‘In fairness to our lads they kept going and we got an equaliser through Ashley Thompson. Then with about five minutes to go Lewis Smith scored from about twenty yards with a low drive with his right foot. We saw the game through and it was a good result for us.

‘We’ve got seven boys out injured and a number of them, if we picked our strongest side, would be involved. So it’s a great result for the lads and it keeps us in with a shout of finishing top at the end of the season which is our ultimate goal. We’re in third place right now with a couple of games in hand so there’s everything to play for with seven games left to go.’

Brazil’s U18 side goes from strength to strength and have exceeded all expectations this season. Riding high in the table Brazil is hoping for his side’s rich vein of form to push them over the finish line and take the title.
