In these financially prudent times, it`s interesting to read that our involvement in the Europa League has been something akin to a minor financial goldmine.
Now whilst it`s never going to be as lucrative as its big brother – the Champions League, the rewards our run from Lithuania to a return to Hamburg, have, according to some media sources, netted us around £8 million.
Furthermore, if we can continue the dream and beat Atletico Madrid that figure will rise to something like £12 million.
Then, there is the opportunity to earn even more revenue when, as potential winners of the Europa League, we`ll be asked to participate in the European Super Cup Final, against the winners of the Champions League (either Bayern Munich or Inter Milan).
Plus, it gets better, a triumph in Hamburg will give us a chance to defend our trophy so the whole process kick-starts again!
Money, money, money, it`s a rich-mans world!
