Every so often a rumour surfaces that you really hope has more than an element of truth to it.

One such rumour is very prominent in the Daily Mirror this morning.

The newspaper is implying that Fulham have been actively watching their teenage sensation Fabian Delph.

Apparently, Delph is being short-listed as a long term replacement for Jimmy Bullard, although quite where that piece of information got fed into the jigsaw we`re currently unsure.

Doubts exist about whether Leeds would be prepared to sell but a faltering promotion bid may result in their new manager, Simon Grayson, deciding to take the plunge and use the money received for the sale of Delph, possibly as much as £5 million, to rebuild a Leeds team that really needs to escape the clutches and restraints of League One football.

As is always the case in such rumours, the names of other clubs are also thrown into the hat, with Sunderland and Arsenal being mentioned.

On a personal basis, I have this niggling doubt as to the authenticity of it all, after all, why would Roy pay so much cash for a player who is seen as a long term replacement, surely such an investment would require instant payback with a starting berth?
