I know we’ve already spoke about the best thing happening since slice bread!

But it is such a unique occurrence, these days; that we feel we’ve just got to concentrate on it and give it the saturation coverage it deserves.

With the possible England debut of Jimmy Bullard only a matter of days away the press are now starting to focus on just how far he has come since his early days and since that awful injury suffered up at St James Park.

In an interview ahead of the big game, Jimmy has spoken out about his beginnings in non-league football and striving to keep his head above water financially remarking,

‘It’s been a slow rise! I began at Gravesend, now I’m in the England squad.’

‘But it’s been a great education for me – I’ve been right through the leagues.’

‘At the start I was a painter and decorator with my dad. I did that for three years and it was hard at times.’

‘But my dad looked after me, he always gave me a day off when I was playing.’

‘It was hard to play as well as having a 9-5 job or 7am to 7pm. It was my dad’s company so he looked after me, but it was still hard work, rubbing down walls and ceilings.’

With reference to the injury that saw Bullard have to fight the demons of rehabilitation, Jimmy had this to say,

‘There were a few dark times when I was in that gym wondering if I’d ever kick a ball again professionally – so to get called up by your country is a great honour. I’m overwhelmed really. Fulham haven’t got a game this weekend so I’d have probably played golf and gone fishing instead.’

‘I might even have popped over to the England hotel, The Grove in Watford, to play golf.’

‘I’ve played here a few times but its much better doing it wearing the Three Lions tracksuit!’

Looking forward to the possibility of starting and how he would cope Jimmy gave the following response,

‘I’ll just be myself. The boys help you along, so it’s quite easy. I play with a smile on my face – and that’s how I play my best. I can’t get too uptight.’

I guess it’ll be us Fulham supporters getting nervous then and not our Jimmy!
