Searching through the papers this morning I stumbled across a rumour that genuinely brought a smile to my face.

The Sun and Skysports today reports that Fulham are one of two clubs chasing the signature of Swedish hotshot Marcus Berg who scored 7 goals at this summers European U-21 Championship

With a number of clubs naturally taking a look at him, it has emerged that Fulham and Hamburg are the two clubs now left in talks with FC Groningen, with a fee of £8 million pounds being mentioned.

Currently employed by the Dutch outfit, Groningen, Berg has scored 33 goals over the past 2 seasons and now feels the time is right to try his luck at a higher level.

His current manager, Henk Veldmate, has given an inkling of the current situation remarking,

“Those two clubs, Fulham and Hamburg, are the only ones left who are now in conversation with us when it comes to Marcus Berg.,’

“We have had some meetings with both clubs. We will see what happens in the next couple of days.”

“But I can say both these clubs have been concrete in their interest and we know Marcus wants to leave us for a bigger club.”

Having watched the majority of the European U-21 Championships this summer, Marcus Berg is a player who I was really impressed with and would love to see him in a Fulham shirt

Would this signing pave the way for Zamora to leave for Hull?

My other concern is that if Marcus Berg was to have a fantastic first season with us, considering his young age, would we be able to hold on to him or would that merely put him in the shop window for other clubs?
