As the closure of the transfer window fast approaches, Roy Hodgson, after signing Dickson Etuhu, is looking to trim his squad.
This morning the Sunday tabloids are carrying a story that both Alexei Smertin and Collins John are free to leave Craven Cottage on free transfers in order to trim the wage bill.
As of yet, Roy has had no offers for either player and has reportedly remarked,
“It`s not as if we`re asking for any money for Smertin.”
“It`s just no-one has made any enquiries for him – the same goes for John.”
Has the credit crunch hit football or are their current salaries too off-putting for any potential suitors?
