Fulham – Bad Day, Good Day Syndrome!

The omens were all there, I just knew I was going to have a bad day!

After that victory over Birmingham, the pub was always going to be the most welcoming of venues and so it proved.

Yesterday, as I struggled to cope with a monstrous hangover, I tried to convince myself that it had all been worthwhile, after all when did we last win back-to-back Premier League games (answers on a postcard please)?

This morning, at least I can see the keyboard and put a few thoughts into words.

Saturday morning I knew we could do it and when that incredible atmosphere spurred the players on, the realisation that survival is now, after that 2-0 win, in our own hands is, after recent weeks, a joy to behold.

No doubt, the last few weeks if you`re a Fulham fan have been hard going. Sitting and waiting for those above us to slip up enough for us to overhaul them wasn`t a nice feeling.

In fact, going into work hasn`t been a pleasurable experience either, the taunting is hard to take, especially when all those around you in the office support far more fashionable clubs.

Nevertheless, there is light at the end of the tunnel now and Roy Hodgson, after the game, gave an insight into his feelings, remarking,

“Understandably, there was a euphoric atmosphere at the end but we don`t want to see that euphoria turn into sadness.”

“There may be people who look at the final fixtures and start making predictions suggesting that it won`t be as hard as it should be because Portsmouth are in the FA Cup Final the following week.”

“But I don`t buy into all that. There might be some leagues around the world where you see certain things happen in final games of the season but not the premier League.

“Whoever Portsmouth put in their side, it will be a difficult game for us. But the good thing is that we have put ourselves in a situation where now we have it in our hands.”

“On that front there is a sense of relief and satisfaction that, in difficult circumstances, the players stood up and were counted.”

Now if we stand up and be counted in a similar manner at Fratton Park next Sunday, survival will be ours for the taking!
