Well that all went a bit pear-shaped did it not!

Ajax stuck to their guns and in a way you`ve just got to admire them. If Martin Jol`s contract had a term or two to run then why shouldn`t they hold him to it!

Any desire to leave to try his luck back in the Premier League has been put on the back-burner by a club who have done what a few more should do when staff seek to leave for pastures new.

As for Fulham they can only rue the fact that the news about a move for Jol became so public, egg on their faces isn`t a phrase that seems to out of place.

The club has issued a statement about Martin Jol which reads,

“On Thursday morning, following talks with Ajax, the club can confirm it has ceased negotiations for the release of Martin Jol from his contract with the Dutch club.”

“Although Fulham had agreed personal terms with Martin Jol, Ajax were not willing to let him leave under any circumstances and have held him to the terms of the contract he signed last summer.”

“When Fulham commenced negotiations with Martin Jol, the club were informed that an exit clause existed in his contract with Ajax. Subsequent negotiations revealed that the clause no longer valid and Ajax position remained steadfast in their desire to keep their manager, therefore dialogue between the two clubs has now ended.”

Right back to the beginning again in the search for a new boss!
