Fulham – A Tale of Two Managers!

After a display, up at the Reebok Stadium, that wasn`t much of a spectacle with regards to entertainment, it was a pleasure to be able to sit back and watch Fulham carve out chance after chance against a Burnley side that appear to have a phobia about away travel.

Naturally, after the match, the two managers had differing views on the events that had taken place. One was delighted whilst the other, only a few games into his tenure as Burnley boss, was already bemoaning their away form legacy.

First up, the key point of Roy`s post match interview,

“We got everything right tonight. When we play like that we would be a tough nut for any team to crack.”

“I feel sympathy for Burnley because they are having a few troubles away from home and they ran into us at the wrong time.”

The first line augers well for the future, especially if Roy is serious about winning the FA Cup (seeing as we`ll probably never have a better chance), but the second line is intriguing. Is there a hint of recognition of Burnley`s away form not being too far removed from that of our own?

Brian Laws, who as an eighteen year old scored the opening goal for Burnley in a 2-0 win at Craven Cottage, the last time they`d won here, was obviously the more disappointed of the two bosses, commenting,

“The first two goals were offside. We didn`t play particularly well but in our situation you are relying on the officials to get it right.”

“Eventually the whole nation will feel sorry for us and want us to get a result away from home.”

Getting a result away from home is a syndrome, us Fulham supporters, are only too aware of after our own trials and tribulations on the road in recent seasons!
