Fulham slipped to a fifth successive Premier League defeat, remaining on forty points.

But, with results elsewhere going in our favour, our Premier League status is assured for another season.

Against Liverpool, in a lively and entertaining encounter, Fulham were to lose to the first hat-trick of Daniel Sturridge`s career, despite taking the lead through Dimitar Berbatov.

The early action was devoid of any goal-scoring chances but that suddenly changed when our Player of the Year, Sacha Riether planted a cross over the head of Jamie Carragher which Berbatov heaed home.

Unfortunately, the lead was to last only a few minutes when Sturridge scored the first of his trio. Andre Wisdom hit a long, somewhat aimless long ball, but Sturridge took it down, coolly lifted it over the head of Aaron Hughes before belting it past Mark Schwarzer into the roof of the net.

All square at half time, Fulham started the second forty-five minutes well with Alex Kacaniklic hitting a long range shot just wide. But the game was to change course in a matter of minutes. Fulham thought they should have had a penalty when Lucas clearly handled a Bryan Ruiz cross. But with play waved on Liverpool broke and when a shot from Phillipe Coutinho was deflected into the path of Sturridge, he buried it to put our visitors ahead.

Schwarzer then denied Sturridge getting that elusive hat-trick tipping an effort around the post from the striker and excursions up the other end of the park almost produced an equaliser when Pepe Reina was forced to push an effort from Berbatov around the post.

But Sturridge was not to be denied and Sturridge was to get his hat-trick when he coolly chipped Schwarzer, after another superb ball from Coutinho, to make it game, set and match to Liverpool.
