Fulham slumped to the bottom of the table after being humbled by Southampton at Craven Cottage this afternoon.

With the transfer window shut and with Rene Meulensteen having been very active, there were Fulham debuts for William Kyist and Lewis Holtby. Also making it into the starting eleven were Damien Duff and Darren Bent.

The first half saw both sides enjoy good periods of possession, the visitors probably shading things possession wise. However, both sides also fashioned chances in what was an entertaining half that was to remain goalless.

Scott Parker, pushing forward saw a chip saved by the Southampton keeper Boruc whilst a header by Burn, from a Holtby corner, landed on the roof of the net. Holtby and Parker both had shots from distance but without troubling Boruc.

Southampton were enjoying good periods of possession but Fulham looked dangerous when they won the ball back. Darren Bent had two decent chances. The first of which saw Boruc make a good save from a half volley whilst the second saw the keeper claw the ball away when one-on-one with Bent.

The visitors finished the half on top with Jay Rodriguez, from a Chambers cross, flashing a header inches wide and then from a Lallana chip sending a volley inches wide.

Half Time – Fulham 0 Southampton 0

Southampton made a change at half time with Cork replacing Wanyama.

The visitors started the half the better of the two teams and Morgan Schneiderlin almost scored with a spectacular overhead kick.

Sadly for Fulham Southampton were to take the lead just past the hour mark when Adam Lallana found the bottom corner after a great ball in from Rickie Lambert.

The lead was soon doubled, seven minutes later, when Lambert struck, the striker netting after Nathaniel Clyne had played a probing ball into the danger area.

Matters went from bad to worse when Southampton made it 3-0 with a move involving Lambert which Rodriguez finished with deadly accuracy, the goal had all the hallmarks of the perfect counter-attack.

A three goal burst in eleven minutes had totally taken the game away from Fulham who were left to contemplate 13 defeats in the last 16 Premier League games.
