What a black day!

There I was convinced we`d end our 68 game run whereby we have not won two Premier League games on the trot and we go and blow it big time!

As anticipated, Liverpool rested their big-guns but they still had two much for us. Indeed, at times, it looked as if they could step up through the gears as and when they wanted.

Unfortunately, a glaring error by Kasey Keller, allowing Peter Crouch`s shot to go through his legs didn`t really help. Perhaps, Keller was still stunned by the Jermaine Pennant shot that seemed to catch him a little off guard, who knows!

The result leaves us teetering on the edge of relegation. We`re adrift and we have only three games left, two away from home (Manchester City and Portsmouth) and a crucial six-pointer against Birmingham at Craven Cottage.

If we get nothing away next weekend, there is a strong possibility that we could witness our plunge into the second tier of English football against Birmingham. Unfortunately, our cause was not helped by the surprise win that Bolton managed at Middlesbrough.

So what positives can we take from the game, apart from the fact the inevitable ‘fat-lady` has yet to sing?

Well in all honesty, not many!

True we tried hard, true we carved out a few chances but was there really any over-whelming desire to drag this one back after Liverpool had taken the lead? I don`t think so. Sad, considering we`d probably started as well as Liverpool had in those opening exchanges.

Any half chances we created were not taken advantage of; both Brian McBride and Brede Hangeland were guilty parties.

Football can be a strange game, last week I was on a real high, this week it`s the pits of despair that are attracting me. I get the feeling this is going to be one long week as we close our eyes and hear that ‘fat-lady` clearing her throat out preparing to herald our Premier League demise!
