Leaving the ground yesterday evening I was tempted to storm home and write a damning match review.
I was angry, I was annoyed and my team had been beaten.
Instead, I made my way to a local pub, sat down and consumed a few pints before finally venturing home to catch the highlights on the television.
In a way it`s amazing that a few hours contemplation can radically change your view.
Gone was that initial bluster, replaced by the acceptance that, on the day, we were, despite our second half efforts, beaten by the better team.
Indeed, if it hadn`t of been for the woodwork, woodwork that saved us four times, we could well have been on the wrong end of a hiding.
Add to that the fact that Mark Schwarzer is once again leading our man-of-the-match poll and you start to realise the pressure our defence was put under by a team that clearly, on the day, looked far better than the Manchester United team we`d played in the previous fixture.
Okay, it still hurts that we finally lost to a 92nd minute Yosi Benayoun goal but in all honesty it was a wonder that the walls were not breached a lot sooner.
In fact, the defeat, although keeping us in with a chance of a Europa League spot has only served to show that, despite our good record against the home teams at Craven Cottage, we`re still some way off of being up amongst them.
So, the moral of the story is, after the initial disappointment, the consuming of a good half a dozen points and a walk home things don`t look as bad as you first thought.
Next stop, Manchester and a chance to get a few more points in our quest to climb even higher in the table.
