Is it just me or is the humble football shirt, the shirt you could wear with pride when your club beat the unbeatable, the shirt that showed your passion and love for your club when the got relegated and the shirt that showed that you supported your club, is one of the biggest cons of the modern era!
They bring out usually three or four shirts a year that you need to buy ‘because wearing last years shirt makes you look very cheap’ and the cost £40 putting your or your favourite players name and number on the back cost another £10 makes supporting your club and not even going to a match expensive!
Which brings me to my real reason for this rant! If you look at the front of your shirt you will see something that usually appears in bus stops, billboards and on the TV, a company’s logo!
So if I get this right I pay £40 to become a moving advert! Surely something has gone a bit wrong here I am paying my hard earned money to become a human billboard?
The main reason I have a problem with this is that international shirts cost the same amount as club shirts they are guaranteed to last for four years and bare only the crest and the make, whereas club shirts usually last for a year and give large companies advertising I know that that is how football as a business works these days but if I am going to advertise for a big brand then I want some kind of discount don’t you?
