Ahead of Northern Ireland`s friendly fixture with Slovenia, in Trnava, we pointed out that the former Fulham defender Aaron Hughes could get to win his 100th cap for his country.

That, we`re happy to report; became the case.

Although Hughes didn`t make the starting eleven, he came on as a substitute, in the 30th minute, to replace Craig Cathcart, who went off injured after being on the end of a couple of rough challenges.

The game ended 0-0 but continued Northern Ireland`s remarkable recent record, as they prepare for the Euro 2016 Finals, of not having lost in the last twelve matches.

However, against Slovenia, Northern Ireland rode their luck and were thankful to their keeper, Michael McGovern; for making several fine saves.
