As the Republic of Ireland prepares to embark on its quest to surprise a few people in Euro 2012, Damien Duff is realistic enough to know this, as far as major competitions go, is his last hurrah.

Duff, unless injury prevents him from doing so, will notch up cap number 100 in the third of the group games and speaking about the situation described, has commented to the media,

“You don`t know how many tournaments you have left. I suppose a few of us are on the home straight.”

“You never know, but this could be our last so you have to savour it.”

“It`s been a long wait since 2002 for everybody, not just the players. The fans have waited a long time for it and I think that everybody is really excited back home. I just can`t wait for it to get under way.”

Me neither, bring it on.
