Dempsey Scores Historic Goal!

I apologise if I`ve been caught in the furore relating to a possible Jimmy Bullard debut for England this Wednesday, it would appear that I`ve neglected to cover our other players away on national duty.

So I thought I`d start tonight with a couple, more to follow tomoorow.

Over on the other side of the Atlantic, in Cuba (a nation suffering in the aftermath of hurricane Ike) our top scorer from last season, Clint Dempsey scored to give the USA a valuable 1-0 win.

After several ‘Cold War` moments, the fixture was the first time the USA had played in Cuba for over half a century.

Speaking about his goal, Dempsey had this to say to the waiting reporters,

“I just tried to get a good first touch to open myself up to the goal and just hit it hard and low near post, and that`s a difficult one for the ‘keeper to save.”

Many people would consider Dempsey a little unlucky not to have started more for Fulham this season.

Perhaps this goal will kick-start his season, although to be fair, I should acknowledge we`ve only played the three times in all competitions, has the season really been going for almost a month?
