Davis enjoyed a loan spell at Ibrox last season and it looked like he was most likely going to stay with the Glasgow outfit. However Fulham’s £4million asking price is apparently too much for Light Blues’ boss Walter Smith.

Ranger’s captain Ferguson is out for four-month while he recovers from an operation on his ankle and so the need for a midfielder of Davis’ quality would surely be an obvious fact.

A fact that Hateley, who works in an ambassadorial role at Rangers, has come to realise.

‘The Steve Davis transfer is a key transfer,’ the former England striker said.

‘From what we seen from Davis last season, he could be a very integral part of Rangers’ season, especially at the start, when the club is without its captain.

‘But it has to either be finalised or move on to look for somebody else.

‘That has to be done pretty quickly, and I’m sure that Walter will be working flat out to do that.’

Just break the bank Rangers! You know he’s worth it!

  • He didnt do well in sanchezplans becuase he wasnt built to be a center mid he was always a wide player and that oviously showed. I think 4 mill is nice we can do loads with that but id like him to play for us hopefuly either blackburn aston villa or rangers can match the 4 million tag

  • I dont know if its a case of we cant afford him, but we think thats too much for him, £3M was a good price, or even swapping Cousin for him. However any deal for £4M (could have got riise by comparison) factoring in his wages, which will be pretty high would have to be taken into account.

  • Get rid of him, he’s rubbish. Let him go to play for a team that he ‘likes’ so that he’ll actually work hard and try to play football
