Yesterday we reported on how the Sunday press was linking us with a move for Jack Cork.

Cork, down on the south-coast, has struggled to get into the fist team picture on a regular basis for high-flying Southampton.

With his appearances being limited it was inferred that Southampton might be persuaded to let the player go, with a fee of £4 million being quoted.

However, it transpires today that another club is also keeping a watchful eye on the situation with the Championship outfit, Derby County, looking to secure the services of the player in January.

The Derby boss, Steve McClaren believes that Cork has the ability to boost Derby`s promotion bid.

Perhaps it remains to be seen whether Cork fancies life at Fulham steering us away from the relegation places or whether he fancies a chase for promotion a division down from us.

If it is the former, then perhaps a good friend of mine will be correct in forecasting that we could field a midfield quartet of ex-Chelsea in Damien Duff, Scott Parker, Steve Sidwell and Jack Cork!
