Reports suggest that Chris Coleman has joined the race for the signature of Ajax player Steven Pienaar. The South African midfielder looks a certain departure from the Dutch club having refused to extend his current deal which runs out in the summer.

The 23 year old is rated around £5million but might be available in a cut price deal in order for the club to at least command some fee for the player who could walk out for nothing at the end of the season. Figures in the region of £2million are being bandied about.

A host of clubs including Liverpool, Celtic and Arsenal have been linked and Manchester City are also said to be still interested having failed to land the player in the summer.

It seems Pienaar is disillusioned with the Dutch league and would favour a move to the Premiership.
