Celtic’s Hooper targeted?

Martin Jol has made no secret of his desire to bring in “at least one” striker before the season kicks-off and one could be Gary Hooper?

The Daily Mail today claims that Jol is hoping that he can tempt Celtic into selling the former Scunthorpe striker who has scored 44 goals in 64 games for the Scottish Champions since his £2.4m arrival in 2010.

Having rejected a £7m approach from Southampton earlier in the year it’ll take quite a bid for Fulham to secure the 24-year-old but it’s also believed that Celtic are “willing to sell at least one of their big-name players” so maybe Hooper could be this one?

Hooper doesn’t have any topflight experience in England so isn’t proven at the highest level, with all due respect to Scottish football it’s hard to judge just how good he would do based on his record in the SPL, so it would be a slight risk depending on how much he would cost but if the rumours of an interest are true then perhaps it’s a risk worth taking…
