Fulham start their domestic cup campaign with a home tie against Leicester City on Wednesday evening.
Fulham will start as favourites against the League One side but Roy Hodgson will emphasise that the correct attitude needs to be prevalent or else his side could be on the end of a shock result.
It’s been a long time since Fulham reached a Wembley Final of any description and many see the Carling Cup as possibly the easiest route. With no Premier League game this weekend, thanks to Manchester United and their Monaco Super Cup excursion, Roy may be tempted to field his strongest side available to maintain match-fitness.
If any changes are made we here at Vital Fulham expect them to be subtle, perhaps Stockdale coming in for Schwarzer and possibly Stoor for Pantsil whilst Dempsey and Nevland may get a run-out as well.
Leicester will arrive at Craven Cottage believing that they can get a result. After suffering relegation from the Championship last season, the Foxes have started well in League One.
The squad has been shuffled and includes a couple of players with recent top-flight experience in the form of Steve Howard and Paul Dickov.
Howard is a powerful striker who is good in the air. After making his name at Luton he moved to Derby County but in a poor team his form suffered and he made the short trip to Leicester.
Dickov is the sort of player you love to have on your team but also the sort of player that infuriates the opposition support. His fiery style ensures he remains very competitive and he made his name playing for Manchester City, Blackburn and Leicester in the Premier League. Although at the twilight of his career, Dickov shouldn’t be treated lightly.
We don’t expect Craven Cottage to be filled to capacity for the fixture, the Carling Cup doesn’t seem to get the crowds it deserves until the latter stages, therefore, if you’re not doing much this Wednesday evening, you could do worse than drag yourselves away from a night in front of the television to cheer the lads on.
