After a classic cup tie, sadly played out in front of a paltry attendance of under 8,000, both managers were upbeat at the post match press conference.

Roy Hodgson, understandably was apprehensive about how his team had gone off the boil and almost let things slip whilst Nigel Pearson was left to rue what might have been.

Here’s what Roy had to say,

‘We know we’ve been let off the hook here. I can’t explain it – we lost our way for a period of time.’

‘We were playing a very good team with their tails up and they gave us an awful lot of problems.’

‘Thank goodness we refound our tempo in the last 20 minutes and got through with two wonderful strikes.’

I guess, for once, Lady Luck was smiling on us. Unfortunately, Nigel Pearson didn’t feel the same feeling, quite rightly, a little hard done by, remarking,

‘Maybe the result was a little unfair but that’s life.’

‘We should have had a penalty in the first half then we were done by a deflection for their opener and their winner as well.’

‘But I’m happy that we gave it a good go and I’m not going to moan too much.’

‘Give Fulham some credit, they fielded a full strength side and I expected that because it’s nearly three weeks until their next competitive game and this is a competition they would like to win.’

Gracious in defeat, we here at Vital Fulham would like to wish Leicester City all the best in their quest to escape from League One, on this showing they should be amongst the front runners for promotion.
