Before kick-off would you, like me, have accepted a share of the spoils?
Our away form, allied with Burnley`s magnificent home form, whereby they`d already seen off Manchester United, always suggested it was going to be mission impossible.
Also, with Fulham not having won at Turf Moor, since Roy Hodgson, was three years of age, you get the impression that some hoodoo`s are there not to be broken.
So why am I so disappointed?
Because, for sixty minutes, Fulham bossed the game. Owen Coyle sat on from the sidelines not knowing why his Burnley machine was faltering on home soil.
The first half may have seen neither side trouble the scorers but it was Fulham that looked the more likely to.
Damien Duff was looking particularly sprightly and both he and Nevland had early chances, Duff was also, later on in the half, to test Jensen with a drive that the keeper saved. Our hosts, on reflection, could only muster an Eagles shot that Schwarzer easily coped with.
The second half saw Fulham continue their early momentum and it came as no surprise when they took the lead. Elliott missed a golden opportunity and from the lightning counter attack Zamora raced away from Caldwell to beat Jensen.
Fulham continued to apply pressure and Dempsey saw an effort cleared off the loan but, as is often the case, just as we were thinking about a rare three points on the road, calamity struck
In the hour mark Elliott netted from at the far post to give Burnley a share of the spoils. Our hosts could have gone on to win as Coyle`s side suddenly found the verve their earlier play had been lacking but, despite some nervous moments Fulham held out and in all honesty a draw was about the right result.
