World famous knee surgeon Dr Richard Steadman has declared the operation on Fulham midfielder Jimmy Bullard a success.
Steadman operated on the Fulham midfielder for the second time this week to try and repair the knee ligaments he injured in September.
‘There’s no guarantee he’ll come back – I can never guarantee something like that,’ Steadman told BBC Sport. ‘But all the signs are positive. We had a video that showed the injury and it was as bad as it gets.’
He added: ‘There are so many factors involved in healing that we just don’t have control over, but yes, I was very pleased.’
Bullard suffered knee ligament damage in a tackle with Newcastle’s Scott Parker during a Premiership match in September.
And Steadman, 69, said the injury was one of the worst he had ever seen.
‘If you saw the injury he had, you would think there would be no chance (of him playing again),’ he said.
‘His situation is certainly much better than when he arrived. He is actually here right now and is progressing well. He’s a great guy.’
