Bullard – Undeserved Criticism?

One of the disadvantages of not playing midweek is that it gives you too long to mull over the events of the previous weekend.

In this case the defeat (how did we lose that one?) to West Ham on Saturday.

Naturally, there has been something of an inquest since we tumbled to defeat, sadly, one or two punters seem to be pointing the finger at Jimmy Bullard suggesting he wasted too many free kicks.

Astonishing is how we here in the Vital Fulham office would describe it.

Okay, so Jimmy couldn`t quite magic up a free kick of the standard he did against Aston Villa last season but he sure as hell tried.

One or two may have not had a degree of success but that`d s how it goes. You have an instant to make your mind up and in that instant you strike the ball everything has to precise.

On Saturday it didn`t come off but that`s no reason to chastise Jimmy as Roy Hodgson quite rightly points out in an interview given after the match remarking,

‘He has scored goals and produced wonderful crosses that maybe kept us in this league so I will be the last one to criticise him for it.’

‘I wouldn’t apportion any blame to him. It just goes to show how well we did in the second half to get so many opportunities despite the fact we were playing with 10 men.

‘He is good at those and it is a high skill to be able to lift balls over the high walls of today and the quality of goalkeepers and put it in the net.

‘He is the best man we have for that job.’

And quite right to Roy!
