Wigan midfielder Jimmy Bullard has agreed a sensational transfer to Fulham and instantly set his sights on securing an international call-up.

The shock move came after Fulham manager Chris Coleman activated a release clause in Bullard’s contract, allowing him to leave the club provided a bid of £2.5 million was made.

The Wigan midfielder has been in inspirational form for Wigan this season, scoring four goals and being instrumental in driving the Latics into 10th in the Premiership in their debut season.

But despite the move from a team who reached the League Cup Final and look on course to finish 10th placed in the league to 14th placed Fulham, Bullard believes that the move serves as a step up.

‘Yeah I think it is a step up, definitely’, he told Sky Sports News.

‘I spoke to Chris and his coaching staff here and they told me their ambitions here and what they want to do.

‘I do see it as a step-up’, he added.

Bullard sees Fulham as a stepping stone to international recognition, and he would qualify to play for England or Germany as he has a German grandmother.

It is unlikely, however, that his time will come at this World Cup.

‘At the moment I want to try and get settled in as quickly as possible, play a few games and see how it goes’, he said.

‘Basically the ambition is there to play for a country, whether it’s Germany or England I don’t know, but my main thoughts are about Fulham at the moment.’
