Was it more than a mere coincidence that Fulham started their preparations for the 2010/2011 season against a side in red and white stripes?

After all hadn`t the 2009/2010 season ended in a gut-wrenching defeat in the Europa League Final, in Hamburg, to a team with that exact same colours.

Probably nothing more than coincidence but it did feel great to get our preparations for the new season finally underway last night at Griffin Park.

True, we may have had a temporary manager in charge but that didn`t seem to affect matters too much as we crushed our hosts 5-0.

With a strong side starting, including such names as Hangeland, Baird, Konchesky and Duff it didn`t take Fulham too long to open the scoring with the first goal coming from a Baird twenty-five yard free kick that bobbled past the Brentford keeper.

Fulham rode their luck a bit when a clumsy Kelly challenge give our hosts a penalty but Stockdale enhanced his chances of a regular first team start, if Schwarzer leaves, by saving the spot-kick from MacDonald.

Fulham doubled their lead through Elm before Duff made it 3-0 slotting home.

The second half saw the introduction of some more familiar faces in Hughes, Gera and Davies and four minutes into the half Fulham made it 4-0 when Johnson (Eddie) scored. The rout was completed when Davies made it five with sixty-seven minutes gone.

All in all a comfortable run-out but with the big kick-off some thirty days away it would be nice to get this managerial situation sorted out would it not!
