When Chelsea come calling most players would pack up their bags and head to Stamford Bridge without thought, but not Fulham ‘keeper Marcus Bettinelli.

Not only did he spurn the advances of Chelsea, who have shown an interest in him at least once in the past, he’s now committed his future to the Whites signing a new four-year deal to stay at Craven Cottage until 2019.

With Thibaut Courtois and Asmir Begovic already at Stamford Bridge, with the 23-year-old linked with the Premier League Champions before and after the latter signed from Stoke, he knows he wouldn’t have got minutes on the pitch.

Telling the Evening Standard he wanted to stay with Fulham and play as opposed to sit on the Chelsea bench.

‘There was always that speculation with Chelsea, but I did not want to be sat on the bench.’

Good lad! You were right, as difficult as it could have been, to bide your time Marcus.
